The fighting genre is about to enter the next generation with games like Tekken 8 and Street Fighter 6. Another series that has played a big part in the development of the scene over the years is the violent and gory Mortal Kombat. . It also led to the creation of the ESRB in the US, which assigned age ratings to video games.

Now, 30 years later, co-creator Ed Boon and NetherRealm Studios are celebrating the series’ 30th anniversary. Since the original Mortal Kombat made its arcade debut on October 8, 1992, the series has skyrocketed to become one of the most popular video game franchises of all time. There have been over 20 games, multiple movies, and even some spin-offs along the way.

As part of the celebration, the team released a special trailer featuring some highlights and thanking fans around the world for their support of the series over the years.
