Apple launched its AirPods Pro 2 last month, but some users (myself included) experienced firmware issues affecting audio performance. According to a recent post noted by 9to5Mac (opens in a new tab), this doesn’t seem to be a widespread problem, but I’ve had a similar experience with my own AirPods Pro 2 and support the claims.
In terms of audio, Apple’s AirPods Pro 2 use advanced processing to achieve a highly acclaimed audio experience. The next-gen model includes a new custom amplifier and driver, personalized spatial audio sound, and dynamic head tracking. Interestingly, the identified audio bugs seem to occur even when these modes are disabled.
One user who commented on Reddit (opens in a new tab) said: “This is my second pair of AirPods Pro 2 and the audio still seems to shift/drift everywhere, sometimes it can compress the volume of a song and then randomly change the volume. volume. No, it’s not head tracking or spatial audio, I turned that off.”
While another said: “I’ve been going through this lately too. I kept thinking it had to do with how sometimes one of my pods gets looser than the other. I would constantly tweak it and this audio drift would keep happening. I hope it’s a software issue.”

At first I thought my own “audio drift” (as it’s been called by forum users on Reddit) was the result of using the AirPods Pro 2 for my workouts. I thought it was a deceptive factor that the usually strong seal of the earbuds was compromised by moisture from my activities reaching the ear canal and loosening the fit. However, in later tests I have found that this has also occurred with more regular use where moisture was not a factor.
Like many of the comments I’ve read, the unusual audio effect seems to shift sound from one earpiece to the other, with a rapid fluttering effect that makes the sound of voices and vocals seem to bounce back and forth from one side to the other. other. Interestingly, this happens when spatial audio and dynamic head tracking are turned off.
Some users have also mentioned lip sync issues where the lip movements of a person singing or speaking in video content are out of sync with what is coming to your ears, although I have not personally encountered this issue on the AirPods Pro 2.

While frustrating, it’s actually quite common for software-driven products, like the best noise canceling earbuds, to encounter some sort of bug(s) during their initial rollout. And Apple isn’t alone in having software issues with a newly launched model. After all, there is always room for improvement and regular software updates are used to develop a product and improve its features, as well as to correct any bugs that arise over its lifetime.
So far, Apple has not acknowledged the audio issues reported by some AirPods Pro 2 users. From what I’ve experienced it looks like this could be a software issue and one that can be easily fixed with an update.
Check back for Apple’s comments on my questions and to see if AirPods Pro 2 users can expect a software update soon.
