Cristiano Ronaldo had to train alone after he refused to act as a substitute

Cristiano Ronaldo will be separated from Manchester United’s first team as Erik ten Hag has to deal with his refusal to come on as a substitute amid his side’s win over Tottenham Hotspur.

The Athletic announced that the Portuguese international got off the ground early on Thursday, before the final whistle.

It has since been revealed that he refused to act as a substitute and as a result he will have to train alone.

He will also not be involved when they travel to Chelsea on Saturday night.

A United statement said: “Cristiano will not be part of Manchester United’s squad for Saturday’s game against Chelsea. The rest of the squad is fully focused on preparing for that game.”

Ten Hag is responsible for discipline in the first team and as a club has the full support of United. However, Ronaldo is still considered an important part of their roster.

Ronaldo watched from the bench on Wednesday night as his United team-mates beat Antonio Conte’s side, thanks to goals from Fred and Bruno Fernandes.
