Aaron Boone says the sunroof ‘killed us’

The Astros took a 2-0 series lead after beating the Yankees 3-2 at Minute Maid Park.

HOUSTON — While fans were able to enjoy the great fall weather during Game 2 of the American League Championship Series, at least one person didn’t enjoy the stadium’s open roof.

New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone blamed some of the team’s problems during Thursday night’s loss to the wind felt during the game against the Houston Astros.

The Astros took a 2-0 series lead after beating the Yankees 3-2 at Minute Maid Park.

Yankees star Aaron Judge hit a shot in the top of the eighth inning, but it just went wide and Astros outfielder Kyle Tucker made the catch.

“Yes, I think, who would have thought? I think the sunroof killed us. I think it’s a 390 (feet) ball. I think it was something like 106 (mph) at whatever,” Boone said at his post-game press conference. “When I went to take out Sevy, we noticed it a lot with Tucker’s ball. The single he got to the right , kind of looked like it just went and stopped, and then I think Judgy (Aaron Judge) was a homer the whole time.

Had the ball gone over the right field wall, the Yankees would have given a 4-3 lead.

“The wind was blowing, yes, that way,” Boone said. “So yeah, I didn’t think he smoked it like no doubter, but it felt like his homers were going right.”

Boone doesn’t have to worry about the roof of Minute Maid Park being open for a while as the series shifts to New York for Games 3, 4 and 5 (if needed). And the Yankees stadium has no roof.

This flyout by Aaron Judge is said to have been an out in 29/30 MLB ballparks, according to Statcast.

The only stadium where it would have been a home run: Yankee Stadium.
